Best MCP servers for Debugging & observability in Cursor

8 entries in the AgentTask Atlas catalog fit debugging & observability and have Cursor setup instructions in their official README or docs. Debugging servers split into two groups: ones that read production telemetry from a vendor account (Sentry, Datadog, Grafana, Cloudflare, Vercel) and ones that inspect something running on your machine (Chrome DevTools, Next.js DevTools). The first group acts with your account's permissions, so the safe setup is to scope access as narrowly as the vendor allows and keep tool approval on.

Based on official docs, not hands-on tested. Cursor steps checked 2026-10-21; catalog entries verified 2026-10-16 to 2026-10-20. Not ranked by a score: entries that document more clients come first.

How to add them to Cursor

  1. 1. Pick project or global config

    Project servers go in .cursor/mcp.json inside the repository, so the whole team debugs against the same project. Global servers go in ~/.cursor/mcp.json and are available everywhere.

  2. 2. Connect Sentry scoped to one project

    Sentry's hosted server uses OAuth: the first connection opens a sign-in to your Sentry account. Its setup page recommends scoping the URL to an organization or project, which makes tools default to that project and hides discovery tools. Cursor snippet from Sentry's setup instructions (replace the slugs):

    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "sentry": {
          "url": "https://mcp.sentry.dev/mcp/{organizationSlug}/{projectSlug}"
        }
      }
    }
  3. 3. Add a local browser debugger (no credentials)

    Chrome DevTools MCP runs locally and needs Node.js LTS and current Chrome. Its README gives this standard config; in Cursor you can also use Cursor Settings, MCP, New MCP Server, or the Install in Cursor button in its client guide:

    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "chrome-devtools": {
          "command": "npx",
          "args": [
            "-y",
            "chrome-devtools-mcp@latest"
          ]
        }
      }
    }
  4. 4. For a Next.js app, read errors from the running dev server

    Next.js DevTools MCP discovers running Next.js 16+ dev servers and proxies their built-in /_next/mcp endpoint for live errors, routes and logs, so start npm run dev first. Its README config for Cursor:

    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "next-devtools": {
          "command": "npx",
          "args": [
            "-y",
            "next-devtools-mcp@latest"
          ]
        }
      }
    }
  5. 5. Datadog: install the plugin instead of a manual entry

    Datadog's setup docs for Cursor say to install the Datadog Plugin (it includes the MCP server): open it in the Cursor Marketplace and click Add to Cursor, or search for it under Cursor Settings, Plugins. Then type /ddsetup in the agent chat for first-time setup. If you added the Datadog MCP server by hand before, remove it to avoid conflicts.

  6. 6. Keep tokens out of the file

    Grafana's README config needs GRAFANA_URL and a service account token. Cursor resolves ${env:NAME} in command, args, env, url and headers, so the token can come from your shell environment instead of being committed with .cursor/mcp.json.

    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "grafana": {
          "command": "uvx",
          "args": [
            "mcp-grafana"
          ],
          "env": {
            "GRAFANA_URL": "${env:GRAFANA_URL}",
            "GRAFANA_SERVICE_ACCOUNT_TOKEN": "${env:GRAFANA_SERVICE_ACCOUNT_TOKEN}"
          }
        }
      }
    }
  7. 7. Keep tool approval on and debug connections

    Cursor asks for approval before running MCP tools by default; click the arrow next to a tool name to see its arguments before approving anything that updates issues or changes a project. MCP tools follow the same Run Modes as terminal commands. If a server fails, open the Output panel (Cmd+Shift+U) and select MCP Logs.

Install notes and account access

Servers that log in to a vendor account act on real data and resources. The permissions line is what the vendor says the server can do with your account.
