JetBrains IDE MCP Server (built-in)
⚠ No independent security audit: entries summarize official sources only. Review permissions and code before installing.
- Type
- MCP server
- Tasks
- Debugging & observabilityLocal filesCode review
- Compatible agents
- Claude Code, Codex, VS Code, GitHub Copilot (source: clients with auto-configuration listed in JetBrains' official MCP Server docs (IntelliJ IDEA help); others via copied SSE, stdio or HTTP config)
- Verdict
- Pick it to let a terminal agent use your IDE's inspections, builds, refactorings and debugger; keep brave mode off and disable tools you don't need.
- Permissions
- Gives connected clients access to the projects open in the IDE: read, create and patch files, search, inspections and builds, run configurations, debugger control, refactorings, Git status, terminal commands and (with the Database Tools plugin) SQL queries. Terminal commands and run configurations ask for confirmation unless brave mode is on; each tool can be disabled.
- Credentials
- None: runs locally inside a JetBrains IDE 2025.2+ (bundled MCP Server plugin); enable it in Settings | Tools | MCP Server. Some database tools need a paid plan.
- Maintenance
- Built into IntelliJ-based IDEs since 2025.2 (bundled plugin com.intellij.mcpServer); IntelliJ IDEA 2026.2.3 released 2026-09-16. The old JetBrains/mcp-jetbrains npm proxy is deprecated and not listed.
- License
- Proprietary (ships with JetBrains IDEs under their license)
- Install
- In the IDE: Settings | Tools | MCP Server → Enable MCP Server → Apply, then click Auto-Configure for your client (Claude Code, Codex, VS Code, GitHub Copilot CLI, Junie) or use Copy SSE / Stdio / HTTP Stream Config for any other client and restart it. Official install docs ↗
